Are Mobile Phones Harmful?

by Fatima Siddiqi

Over the past decade, mobile phones have become a necessity to everyone. It allows us to keep in touch with our loved ones, and helps keep better track of our kids throughout the day. Once the routine sets in that we need our phones, you just can't leave home without them. Even more today than ever before, due to digital media extras and massive texting and web surfing that is available. Communication has truly evolved and gotten better, although some will disagree. There are people out there who believe that mobile phones are the root of all evil and are doing more harm then they are good. It's an endless debate that may never be revealed.

It doesn't matter what the subject is in our world today, there are health conscious people everywhere. When it comes to cell phones, many people don't realize how these can remotely be harmful, but as time progresses more and more people are beginning to understand. Unfortunately you won't see any problems in the early going, but as time passes by you will soon find yourself and others experiencing difficulties thanks to cell phones. Over the years scientists have been conducting case studies to warn people about the problems with mobile phones.

Mobile phones have built-in antennas that pick up your voice which is converted to radio waves. This emits radiation which has the same frequency that a microwave emits. People use their phone several times a day chronically heating places in their brain. What can we do to reduce our exposure to radio frequency? The risks may not be that highly critical but just to avoid any possible problems, minimize use of our phones can be done. The use of a headset can also lessen the risk of radio frequency exposure since the device is far from you compared to directly heating up your phone in your ear.

There are many other harmful traits connected to cell phones that don't have anything to do with radio waves. When is the last time you saw someone talking on the phone while they were driving? In the last five years, accidents have increased due to people not paying attention to the road because they were on the phone. In fact, due to the ongoing problem, states have begun to institute laws forbidding phone use in the car. If this wasn't bad enough, using them in places like airplanes, hospitals and other places can cause interference to equipment.

These mobile phones are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission for phones that control the rate of energy absorbed by the brain. These signs are found in the packaging of most new phones causing less harm to the users. The FDA and Cellular Telecommunications and & Internet Association has done continuous research over the safety of mobile phones. Several laboratory studies are being conducted for them to be able to find more ways to stop this possible health risk.

What it comes down to is that we can't live without cell phones anymore. Even if you wanted to and still interact with society, most places need a quick way to get a hold of you. The different forms of communication are here to stay and they will continue to be a part of our lives on an everyday basis. This being said, it's important to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from harms way. If this means taking precautions with cell phones then that's what you'll have to start doing.
